What is CHARGE?
C.H.A.R.G.E has accepted the challenge to unite people from different backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses, races, religions, genders, and ages, equipping them with a “growth” mindset as well as the tools needed to produce higher quality of living. We believe in a person first mentality as no one person is more important than the other. We also believe in the power of numbers, realizing that if we all “accept the charge” to be our “brother's keeper”, we will all be “kept”. Not only does C.H.A.R.G.E plan to provide services for individuals in need, but C.H.A.R.G.E has started and plans to continue partnering with other nonprofit organizations that already have services.
We are also going to be accepting projects, helping other individuals and nonprofits accomplish their goals. This will allow us to focus on areas needed while ensuring that everyone gets the help they need. C.H.A.R.G.E will feed hungry, help in foreign fields, work with people who have disabilities, forgotten citizens, single mothers, students, domestic violence victims and abusers, and/or people who just need someone's help and/or a second chance!
Our goal is to not only help others, but to give each person we help the platform to give back and help someone else. We are choosing projects based on needs presented after much research is done. In our inaugural year, C.H.A.R.G.E plans to create awareness while fundraising for at least 5 disadvantaged populations/social issues, develop final plans for our trip to Liberia (January 2019), partner with at least 3 other nonprofit organizations, and help a minimum of 10 individuals in need.
C.H.A.R.G.E. is something that has been on my heart for a while. One day a few years ago, I was visiting my aunt in the hospital and thought I would tell everyone who was there my idea. My family, as always, was extremely supportive and even helped me come up with the acronym for C.H.A.R.G.E.
Over the last few years, I would talk to my aunt from time to time to get her views on things I wanted to do. She was always one of my go to’s because I looked up to her and trusted that she would never willingly give me bad advice. Unfortunately, she passed away on my birthday last year during one of the toughest times of my life. After she passed, I was given a few things she created for work purposes and I came across a list of ideas she had for her church that was almost identical to what I wanted to do. I wondered why she let me go on and on about something she too wanted to do all along.
After I saw the ideas and reflected on everything I survived last year, I could not stop thinking about C.H.A.R.G.E. I have a heart to help people and I know great things can happen when people join together to create positive change. Nobody is perfect and we can all do better, why not do it together? I believe we can create change if we start first with ourselves and also take responsibility for our brothers and sisters as well. Everyone always says “You can't help everyone Laurin.”. My response to that is “Why not…? I can do all things, I am connected to the ultimate plug…!
